NFL Week 9

7 11 2009

Week 9 in the NFL will bring some great football games. Here are the ones to keep an eye on:

Cowboys at Eagles (8:20pm)

Both teams are 5-2 and are tied for first in the NFC East. The Cowboys are riding a three game winning streak that has brought them from 2-2 to tied for the third best record in the NFC. The Eagles’ quarterback, Donovan McNabb, is always capable of changing the game with a big play as he leads the league in passes that pick up 40 or more yards. The running game of both teams is as respectable as their passing games; Dallas averages 147.6 yards per game on the ground while Philadelphia averages 114.6 yards per game. Expect a high scoring game that will be decided by a key defensive play.

Steelers at Broncos (Monday Night Football)

This won’t be a game that sees a lot of offensive yards and touchdowns; with the weatherman predicting near-freezing temperatures with some form of precipitation, and with the mindset of both of these two teams, it looks like it will be a defensive battle. The Broncos are looking to bounce back from a 30-7 loss to the Ravens while the Steelers are coming off a 27-17 win over the Vikings. The Broncos have the advantage of being the home team and should handle the high altitude better than the Steelers; however, this will be a great Monday Night game that will be won by the best defense.

 Ravens at Bengals (1pm)

The Bengals are tied with the Steelers for the lead in the AFC North at 5-2 while the Ravens are third in the division at 4-3. This game has some playoff consequences as the loser would fall back in the standings, and could be eliminated from the postseason with the NFL’s tiebreaker system. Both teams run the ball well (Ravens: 124.9 yds/game, Bengals: 127.7 yds/game), but the Ravens have a better defense. This will be an intense, physical game between two division contenders.
